Internships
Our wildlife center offers hands-on internships for individuals passionate about animal care, conservation, and rehabilitation. Interns gain real-world experience working directly with native wildlife, assisting with daily care, feeding, habitat maintenance, and medical support under the guidance of licensed rehabilitators. Beyond animal care, interns also learn about public education, nonprofit operations, and the vital role rehabilitation plays in protecting local ecosystems. It’s a challenging but rewarding opportunity to make a direct impact while building valuable skills for a future in wildlife or environmental fields.
What to Expect...
Interns at the wildlife center can expect a hands-on, fast-paced experience that blends animal care, medical support, and public engagement. Throughout the internship, participants will develop practical veterinary assistant and veterinary technician skills while working closely with trained staff. Daily responsibilities include preparing diets, feeding orphaned and injured wildlife, cleaning and maintaining enclosures, and assisting with basic medical treatments. Interns will also have opportunities to support education programs, helping connect the community to local wildlife and conservation efforts.
The internship requires a total of 96 hours, typically completed over 8 weeks at approximately 12 hours per week. For added flexibility, interns may choose to complete their hours over a 9-week period to allow for a planned break if needed. As a final project, each intern will create a trifold presentation highlighting a species or rehabilitation technique they found meaningful, which will be displayed during an open house in August.
